milestone: eighteen months

32 in
27 pounds

Average percentile for weight and 70th for height. Yay, Miles!

It's always hard to believe another big milestone has come and gone when I write these posts. Miles is doing so many great things! He's saying 30-40 words (including lots of "Miles-isms" like uppie for open which we've been hearing a lot of since opening presents).

Still working on a mouthful of teeth. Since the molar (which is halfway in now), I think we have two new front teeth though it's hard to get a look unless we tickle Miles and/or turn him upside down.

Miles is playing a lot of new games - stacking 12+ blocks and laying them out on the stairs in an order that definitely makes sense to him. Marching and banging pots/pans with spoons continues to be a big hit. He loves pushing around his new shopping cart with Elmo in the seat. Christmas was so much fun - pictures coming soon!

going to nana's

Two weeks ago we had our first JOINT overnight away from Miles. We had plans to do a Chicago getaway, and Miles would stay with nana.

We almost had a setback on Friday when Miles got sent home from school with a 102 fever. We did a quick trip to the doctor to see if he had an ear infection. Nope. No symptoms besides the high fever so we did Tylenol and he was feeling better by evening so we stuck with our plan.

Miles did great - practically hopped in the car with nana and off he went. I was teary, of course, but it was short-lived and we were on our way too. Miles had a great time - played a lot and was too busy to talk to us when we called :) His fever was up and down all weekend, but he was back to normal by Sunday afternoon when we picked him up.

In the city, Ben and I enjoyed drinks and a long lunch, did some holiday shopping and went to a holiday party Sat. night. We even managed to stay out late! Sunday morning we had a long breakfast while reading the paper (that NEVER happens any more!) and made a few stops before heading home. I was very anxious to get home by midday Sunday! I needed some snuggles!

Miles was clingier than usual for a few days, but overall he did super and we did too. I'm glad the first overnight is out of the way and hoping the next one is easier!

'tis the season

It's been a few weeks since my last post, and we've been majorly busy! Some highlights:

  • Celebrated a low-key Thanksgiving with my family and Ben's parents. Miles ate some sweet potatoes, stuffing and turkey. I think the roll was his favorite, continuing on the bread streak
  • Had a play date with Lynn and Andrew! Miles was able to keep up with Andrew better this visit since he's walking now, but Andrew is still faster...we'll see how they compare next time
  • Attended the ISU holiday party. Miles liked the circus performances and we made some crafts - a gingerbread magnet and clothespin reindeer. Unfortunately we were number 209 for Santa so we didn't make it...
We also had a BIG milestone this weekend: our first joint night away from Miles! Miles spent the night at nana's house and we went to Chicago...more to come on that.

milestone: seventeen months

We made a trip to the doctor this week, but it wasn't for a check-up, unfortunately. Miles had a lingering cough/runny nose so we got it checked out and he had an ear infection. He was on the scale for a few seconds and it was over 26 lbs but we'll have to wait another month for all the official stats.

I've posted about favorite new activities so I am trying to think of what else is "new" to report. Two weeks ago Miles transitioned to a cot at school, and it went really well. He lays down when it's nap time and falls asleep with his teacher giving some soothing and back rubbing. He seems to be sleeping longer more often on the cot so hopefully that will continue.

Miles is using a fork and spoon more and more but using his hands is still the preferred method. Favorite foods continue to be crackers and applesauce, and he's good with fruit, pasta, any bread and yogurt. Veggies continue to be a struggle although he eats those well at school most days.

We noticed this week that one of his molars is finally through (which brings the total tooth count to 5!) - hooray! His incisors are really close so I think they'll be next.

Another recent happening is the use of mommy! He's been saying daddy for months and nana too, but not a lot of mommy at all until the last few weeks. It's sooooo great to hear from my little boy!

elmo

Miles has his first character crush: Elmo. It started with his Shake A Leg book and then the characters on his diapers. The kids also listen to Sesame Street songs at school. So once we figured out he knew who Elmo was we started letting him watch some of Sesame Street...then Ben's coworker gave us her son's old Elmo doll. As you can imagine, he's officially obsessed.

Now he turns the tv on, gets his play remote, sits in his chair and says Elmo. It's soooo cute and funny.

This is a picture of him enjoying some Elmo and a cracker on his new bean bag chair from Nana. You can see Elmo doll sitting nearby :)

new game

Miles loves to play parade! Here's how it works: he marches from the dining room to the stairs playing music with his pots/pans and spoons. He likes when he has a band with mommy, daddy, g-ma/g-pa, etc.  so we all play music and march in a line. It's so fun!

The weather is turning colder so we are spending a lot more time inside. We went back to the Children's Discovery Museum this weekend, and Miles really enjoyed it. That will definitely be a place we frequent this winter. We are ready for snow with puffy coat, snow pants, gloves, etc. but it just won't be the same playing outside for short periods of time. I imagine we'll need to come up with a lot more games to stay entertained!

roar!

Lots of Halloween fun! Miles was sorta interested in carving pumpkins. He didn't want to touch the guts, but he liked banging the pumpkin with his spoon after daddy did the hard work.

Until Halloween night, our attempts with the costume had not gone well. We tried it on twice, and Miles wore it for about ten minutes. So for Halloween we put it on quickly and then went outside to finish up with the hood and applied whiskers and a nose. Seeing the wagon got him excited and off we went! We rode up and down the block and trick or treated at about ten houses. Miles did great! I was so proud of him!

I think his favorite part of the night was holding the candy, dumping it out and transferring it from our big cauldron to his small bucket and back again. He liked seeing kids in their costumes. When Ben gave out some candy he said "nonono" but then was okay once he realized he still had some candy too. So fun!

milestone: sixteen months

We are having SO MUCH FUN at sixteen months. Miles is growing more verbal every day so communicating is getting easier. He is also communicating in other ways - he goes to his booster seat when he wants to eat or drink; he goes to the stairs when he is ready for a nap or bedtime; and he marches in place/stomps excitedly and points when he wants something, like to go outside where he also pulls on the door handle (maybe potty training will be a breeze!).

Miles is really interested in cars, trucks, trains and airplanes. He loves the sounds and gets really excited when a loud truck goes by or a plane is overhead.

We took a trip to the zoo this past weekend so we could spend time outside enjoying the final warm days of fall. The animals were very alert, and Miles had fun watching and talking to them -- the wolves, singing dogs, otter and sea lion were big hits.

We're getting excited for Halloween. Miles tried on his lion costume last weekend and wore it briefly so we need to work on that the next few days so he's ready for Monday.

more fall fun

ISU Homecoming was this weekend, and we also made a trip to the pumpkin patch. I love this time of year!

At the parade, Miles love the bands and tractors. He also yelled and pointed at the Sonic mascot (a milkshake?). The pumpkin patch was an adventure this year compared to last year that's for sure. Miles was here, there and everywhere! He fell into a pumpkin stem and scratched his nose. Posing for pictures - I don't think so! We did our best to catch him in action. He liked sitting in the tractor wheel so that was an easy one.

We've been working on nap transition for a week and it's been so-so. Miles has taken anywhere from a 30min nap (at school) to a 3 hr nap (at home last weekend). He took 2 naps today at home with nana -- he was pointing to go upstairs and get his binky so sorta hard to fight it when he's that tired! He fell asleep in the bean bag chair at school yesterday after lunch (but then only slept for 30 min)....so we're going to keep working on it and hopefully it'll all work out eventually.

New words: tissue (he loves to get one out of the box, wipe his nose and then put in his mouth or tear it apart), giggle (said it today!), no (in full swing) and boo (he's been saying this for awhile but it's so timely now with Halloween!).

bye bye bottle

SUCCESS in bottle weaning has been achieved!! We dropped the evening bottle on Sunday, and Miles didn't even notice. As I suspected, this one was a lot easier than the morning bottle. Hooray! I am so proud of Miles. He doesn't fuss or cry when he sees his cup in the morning so things are going great with the cup in general. In fact, he's showing more and more interest in drinking from a regular cup so he gets impatient with his sippy sometimes. Sigh....he grows up so fast!

Miles' vocab continues to expand. He's mimicking a lot of words and phrases and is close to saying "go blue" for Michigan. We've avoided "no" so far, but he's starting to say versions of it and applying it correctly so I'm sure that'll be in full swing soon. Roaring like a bear/lion is his new favorite sound :)

fall...and a cold

We've been enjoying some wonderful fall weather. Cooler days and nights and some rain, but also lots of beautiful sunshine. The change in weather has brought a cold and mild ear infection to poor Miles. Seriously when does his built-up immunity from daycare kick-in? So frustrating to have a sick kid once a month through the winter. Blah! In light of the cooler temps, I'm also trying to stock up on long-sleeved shirts, pants and outerwear. It's hard to keep up with our growing boy!

Thursday, September 22, 2011

milestone: 15 months

Miles saw his pediatrician today, and here are his stats:

31 1/4 in
24 lbs 15 oz
19 1/4 head circ

He's in the 55th percentile for height and weight so just about average. I swear he is the biggest kid in his class so he must be surrounded by lil ones! :)

Miles is making great progress on words. New ones include bubble, apple and daddy (no mommy yet!). He's working on meow - he has the "ow" part down!

Still only the four teeth though we can see a lot coming in.

We are weaning from the bottle, and it's been pretty crappy for all of us. We dropped the morning bottle first, and he's cried and fussed every day this week. Next week we'll drop the evening bottle and just do milk at dinner; I think that one will actually be easier. The morning milky has been rough -- I think that is more of his snuggle time and a nice way to start the day. Sigh...more growing up. His two sippy cups during the day are going pretty well. He still drinks more at school but hopefully that will all even out soon. Our pediatrician encouraged us to keep it up and he'll drink milk when he wants it...we'll get through it!

Getting excited thinking about Halloween. Miles might be a doggie! :)

I can't remember the last time I updated my masthead...so I did that and a little remodeling. Hope you like it!

growing boy

Miles is making steady progress on walking. He's going all over the house, porch and yard. It takes him longer to get comfortable in unfamiliar places like the park, farmers market, etc. but he's doing great overall. Not running yet!

His vocab continues to grow! New words include woof (for dogs, cats and horses), ball, duck and quack. Miles loves story time. He'll select a few books, grab his lamb and crawl into my lap on the rocking chair. It is melt-my-heart goodness.

Our 15 mo check-up is in two weeks, and I can't wait to see how big he is! He can only wear a few summer shirts and shorts; grew out of those just in time. Now I'm stocking up on fall clothes at consignment stores, buying from friends and making a few purchases.

gassing up the bubble car with his bubbles :)
new kitchen! my coworker's two boys grew out of it and we gladly took it off her hands. Miles loves it.

personality

Miles is still a mostly happy, smiley baby. I mean toddler! Shy and/or clingy every once in a while but pretty outgoing and friendly overall.

He's developed a very strong will lately and started to throw the occasional tantrum. Example: yesterday we took a wagon ride and he got mad when we were crossing the street. Odd. We walked up the rest of the block, turned around and he got mad again when we crossed the street. Then he started pointing the other way and crying...then we figured out he was mad because he wanted to go to the park. Oh boy. We knew he sorta knew how to get there because he's pointed that way before but he definitely knows and now gets super mad when you even leave the house in the wagon and don't go in the direction of the park! Uh oh.
If doesn't get a toy he wants, to walk when he wants, etc. he's acts out - throwing things, laying down on the ground and crying or pouting. I'm sure it'll come and go in phases and get a lot worse and maybe a little better over time. Fourteen months old and we're getting a taste of the terrible twos!

walking!

Monday, August 22, 2011

milestone: fourteen months

I wish I had new stats to report because it seems like Miles has grown a lot this month! My back is starting to ache from carrying him around, but that will get a little better soon--Miles is really close to walking. He still holds on with a finger which is adorable. He will grab my finger when he wants to go somewhere so that's my cue to walk. :) We went shoe shopping yesterday and Miles is a size 4 and 4.5 so we're shopping for size 5 shoes! Seems big to me!

Other new skills include brushing his teeth, which he really likes!, and learning to put things away. Miles loves to play at his bookshelf so we've started doing a few books back on the shelf and he's getting the hang of it. We also started weaning from the bottle last week which is going so-so. Some days are better than others so we keep encouraging him.

Pictures next....

first words and signs

Miles' vocabulary is expanding! In addition to up, he's now saying uh oh, wow and hi. Uh oh sometimes goes along with dropping something, but usually he says it randomly. Wow usually goes in a pattern - wowowowowow.....over and over. Hi sounds like hi-ee. :) Can't wait to hear what's next.

Miles has also learned the signs for "more" and "all done" and normally applies them when he's eating. We get an occasional all done during diaper changes and other things he gets tired of quickly.

The weather has been great the past week so we've played outside a lot. We tried a new park on Sunday, and Miles is getting more and more adventurous. Yesterday at daycare he got to play at the splash table and came home with a minor scraped knee. He loves getting in and out of the bubble car ... over and over again. Miles is standing independently a lot more and walks well holding on with one hand...he's going to take off soon!

mommy's big night

I had a work trip to Chicago this week, and my first night away from Miles. We missed each other but both did well. I couldn't wait to get home for hugs and kisses!

Tonight we are having another first - we're leaving Miles with his first official babysitter. My friend Julie recommended a friend of hers so Miss Emily will be watching Miles tonight while we all go to see Romeo and Juliet at The Shakespeare Festival.

In other news, Miles has tooth #4 - his other top front tooth! He likes his new chompers, and we can definitely tell these teeth coming through has given him a little relief until next time.

Hoping to get some pics up ASAP! Miles has lots of hair and may need a trim soon!

tooth #3

A top front tooth is finally in!! Poor baby -- it's taken soooo long for it to break through. Miles has lost a lot of interest in table food lately because, I think, his gums hurt. Hopefully this break through will help a little. His smile is going to change so much as more teeth come in. I'll miss the gummy grin.

So it's time for a mommy and Miles weekend! Ben's off to see his MI friends so we're on our own. I'm a little nervous! I hope I can maintain patience and not get too worn out :)

milestone: thirteen months

Miles has been babbling so much more lately. I think he associates mama, dada and nana with the right people. But those are still babble words so I haven't been counting them as a first word. He is, however, saying "up" we think. He crawls over to us, pulls up on our legs and says "up" as in "pick me up". We'll see if this develops into something ... and if another word comes soon.

He's still doing about the same with walking. Lots of walking with his push car and holding on to mommy and daddy, but rarely does he do any walking with just one hand.

Teething is going sssssslllloooooow. Still only the two bottom teeth and maybe a tiny spec of his top left tooth has finally broken through.

Lots of great pics to share soon!!

368

That is the number of days I breastfed Miles! Woo! I've been reflecting on the whole process for a few weeks now...

I definitely miss my special time with Miles. He's done well, only a bit clingier at times and separation anxiety has gotten worse. I'm trying to give him lots of replacement cuddles.

I don't miss pumping and the constant worrying about having enough milk, trying to eat well, stay hydrated, avoid caffeine and alcohol (not to mention the "gassy" foods like radishes!). It's nice to just eat and drink what I want for the first time in 22 months!!

I'm really proud of what we accomplished together. Let's face it, I couldn't have done it that long unless Miles was a willing participant! He was such a champ - never a bite or a strike!

milestone: twelve months

We had the big one year appt on Thursday.

30in
22.8 lbs
18.5 in head circ

He's in the 75th percentile for height and 45th percentile for weight. All good! Shots were not fun, as usual.

The party on Saturday was soooo much fun. Our family came along with a little buddy from daycare and our friend Michael. The boys had fun playing and took a short wagon ride when the rain let up. Miles did not like cake...he smashed some icing and that was about it. Lots of good pictures to post...coming soon!

1 is one-derful!

oh. my. I can't believe my baby boy is one. We had a mini celebration today with some gifts this morning and a trip to the park this afternoon. Then we'll party it up on Saturday!

As if he doesn't already look like a little boy in this picture, we got photos taken yesterday and this sneak peak is just tooooo much.

almost one

It's fun to think back about what we were doing this time last year...a whole lot of waiting!! I was soooooo anxious waiting for Induction Day. Now my only anxiety is getting ready for a first birthday party --- MUCH more fun.

Miles has had a busy few weeks. Daycare transition is going well. Miles naps a bit better in his new room (thanks to some white noise from a fan I think) and is eating like such a big boy with all his friends around a table. So cute. His favorite foods continue to be cheese, yogurt and graham crackers. Today he tried cheese ravioli - yum! The weaning process is going well...sorta. Miles has lost a lot of interest in his bottle, but won't drink from a sippy cup yet so we're working on that. I am down to nursing once a day and will have the big finale this weekend.

Stranger anxiety, fear of loud noises and crankiness/teething have all skyrocketed in the past few days. He's going through a lot of changes so I'm hoping it's just a phase and that another tooth pops sooooon to give him a bit of relief. It seems like teeth 3+ are taking for.ev.er!

One year pictures tomorrow!! I know I am going to cry when I see how big my baby looks in photos...

Miles in the city

We had our first Chicago outing last weekend, and it was so much fun. Miles slept most of the car ride, which was a big relief, and did well being in a new place, eating out, visiting friends, etc. One of his favorite things to do at the hotel was stand in the window and look at the buildings, people on the street, and "talk" to them. Too cute!

We visited with Natalie and Nikki, toured a fantastic farmers market and spent Saturday afternoon, evening and Sunday morning with the Nohalty family in Oak Park. Miles loved playing with Jenna and Evie (and their fun toys)! Can't wait for more Chicago trips and exploring the city.

new tricks

Quick post to tell you about the other night when I was feeding Miles strawberries. He wasn't sure about them so I just left a few on his tray so he could try them when he was ready. I ate one to show him how good they were so he promptly picked one up and held it out to me -- since I thought it was so good he thought I should eat another! So now Miles is feeding me and he thinks it is just the funniest thing ever. I must admit it's so darn cute and very entertaining.

After a few weeks of not clapping much at all, Miles has started clapping more and more...during music yesterday at the farmers market, at playtime, when he goes to bed, during diaper changes, and today in the midst of our evening nursing session. I took it as a very enthusiastic breast milk endorsement.

Monday, May 23, 2011

milestone: eleven months

I can't believe Miles is eleven months old!! Even harder to believe: he'll be a year old in just one month. It's gone by in the blink of an eye. I remember the early sleepless nights (and a few recent ones!) when I couldn't wait for the sun to come up because that meant it was a new day -- we were literally taking it hour by hour and day by day. Now the days seem to fly by, and I have to slow down and really enjoy every single precious moment.

Miles continues to amaze us with his new tricks. He's cruising along the furniture with ease and trying to stand up on his own all the time. He loves finger foods and will tell you when he's had enough "baby" food purees by spitting it out at you. He's quick to smile and laugh which brings us constant joy. One of his newer skills is pointing...almost there with the pointer finger and instead he motions in the direction of whatever catches his eye and waves at it. Miles plays peek-a-boo with his towel after bathtime pulling it up over his face with both hands and down again (repeat 10+ times). Another new favorite trick is downward dog -- he's an early yoga lover! He's using mama and dada a lot to "talk" to us.

The next month will bring a big transition at daycare to a new room and teacher, and I'll start the weaning process, which I'm sad/happy about at the same time. Lots of changes coming!

The weekends are getting busy with farmers markets outings, trips to the park and walks in the stroller now that it's finally getting warmer. We're excited for a summer full of new adventures.

happy mother's day

It was wonderful to celebrate mother's day with Miles. Even after celebrating with my mom and grandma for years, this mother's day definitely had an entirely new meaning.

Miles gave me my first homemade mother's day gift, which he made at school with his teacher. Daddy and Miles also got me some thoughtful gifts.

swim

Miles is a Bubble Babe! We started swim lessons last week and had lots of fun. Ben was in the water with Miles, and they did great together. The class is all about getting babies comfortable in the water so they sang songs, climbed the wall and sorta went under (over the face). Miles loved watching the other kids and playing with his buddy Michael.

I have tons of photos and some video to share. Coming soon!

tooth, part three

The second tooth is definitely up! I saw it this morning...just in time for school pictures today :). He doesn't exactly have a toothy grin yet, but making progress!

Monday, April 18, 2011

tooth, part two

Okay, NOW Miles has a tooth! We've been waiting and waiting, and it finally appeared Sunday morning! It's the cutest little bottom tooth in the world. :) Ben can see a speck next to it, as well, so he has two in progress. I haven't been able to get a good look at tooth #2 yet despite my best efforts.

Miles was fussy most of last week, and bedtimes were rough. We couldn't figure out if he was having some separation anxiety, teething pain or what. Friday morning at 1:44 a.m. he woke up and never went back to sleep. He had a low fever so we called the doctor and took him in for a look. Turns out he has a mild ear infection so that was definitely playing a role in the crankies. Everyone's feeling better now except Ben and I, of course, have whatever cold Miles is fighting. I am so so so ready for spring and fewer colds!

I'm hoping to post a few photos soon...including those that show Miles and his version of crawling (a few crawls, pushing with his right leg, squatting and trying to stand).

We had our first trip to the zoo a few weekends ago, and Miles went to the bunny party. We had so much fun!

milestone: nine months

Great check-up yesterday! Here are the latest stats:

19.2 pounds
29 inches
head circ 17.5 inches

The pediatrician guessed Miles would have his two bottom teeth within a week...we'll see! He's SO CLOSE to crawling too. Up on all fours and a little movement then a belly flop. It's very dramatic, and he's definitely getting frustrated at not being mobile. He loves to pull up in his crib, pack n play, on mommy/daddy or who/whatever is close. Miles will also "cruise" now i.e. walk with the help of the edge of his crib, etc. His wave is fabulous and completely spontaneous. He rarely applies it for hi or bye. Miles does like waving at Charles Barkley when he's commentating March Madness. Ha!

We're continuing to try new foods like pasta and more finger foods like smashed carrots and bananas. I can't believe he's doubled his birth weight (and then some!) and growing up so fast.

Monday, March 28, 2011

swing

Miles took his first swing ride last Sunday ... he's got a 9mo big boy gummy grin!

We go to the pediatrician Thurs. for a check-up so be back in a few days with all the latest stats.

boo-boos

Miles got his first boo-boos this week! On Wednesday at daycare, his teacher accidentally dropped a sanitizer spray bottle near his head (sounds bad now that I type it...) and the spray nozzle part bumped and scraped his head. I don't think it hurt much, but it sure scared him! He cried, but recovered quickly.

Then today he had an accident at home under Nan's watchful eye. He was in his crib trying to pull up on the tall end, of course, and he let go and toppled over and bumped his cheek on the shorter side. Crying followed, along with lots of kisses from Nan.

So now he has a red mark and maybe a bruise forming to complement his scrape. At least the second boo-boo was self-inflicted.

I know these are just the first of many ouchies to come, but it still makes mama so sad!! :(

Arizona adventure

Well I didn't exactly get to post from Arizona. I thought about it though. We had a great trip. It was a whirlwind!

Wednesday was just a travel day - 8 long hours from our house to the hotel. Miles did amazingly well. We fed him at the airport and he slept on the plane. He was fussy at takeoff (with his binky), but that's it. He was wide-eyed and smiley when Lynn picked us up at the airport.

The hotel worked okay. Looking back I wish I would have gotten a suite so we could have had two rooms (one for Mile to nap in and one for us to be able to move around in!). All in all, it worked fine. The hotel crib was a small metal jail, but Miles didn't mind. He even mostly put himself to sleep Thurs. and Fri. night.

Thursday was action-packed with the Cubs game. Miles and Andrew had a great time, and they were so stinking cute in their gear. We sat in our seats for a few innings and then strolled over to the grass so the boys could move around. The boys were fast friends; Andrew even said "Miles, wait up" when I was pushing him in the stroller. Too cute! That night we stayed in, ordered pizza and let the boys play, play, play.

Friday was a slower day. We visit the Mesa Farmers Market for some goodies, and Miles got to touch his first palm tree. That afternoon we played with Andrew (Lynn and I even got away for a little bit and the boys hung out while the babies napped). We went out to dinner Fri. night at Salty Senioritas (an annual tradition) and the boys were little gems despite a very long wait. Andrew tried to pull the fire alarm (nice save, mommy!) and we had lots of laughs.

Saturday we had a little playtime, met a cactus - no touching, and lunched at Paradise before the return travel marathon. Miles did well on the return flight smiling and waving at our seat neighbors. He napped briefly and got antsy, but did great considering we had a delay ON the plane where we just sat for like 30 min.

The car ride from the airport to our house was the worst part, but I can't say I blame Miles because it was late and it had been such a long day. I wanted to fuss too. All in all, he was a travel champ! The time change (from MT to CT AND daylight savings) has been tricky, but hopefully we'll get back to normal in a day or two.

Now we just need a vacation from our vacation to recover. Pictures coming soon!

airplane

We're heading to sunny Arizona in a few hours to hang out with Team Burchfield.

Miles can't wait to play with Andrew and learn all sorts of new tricks! We're currently working to perfect the art of the wave. Here's how it works: right arm extended parallel to the ground, palm facing backwards, hand open and shut. Hilarious! I think we got it on video last night.

Gotta finish packing and stressing about the plane ride...more from Arizona!

milestone: eight months

Miles has lots of new tricks!

He's starting to clap hands with mommy and daddy. He hasn't figured out how to clap his hands together yet, but he'll clap one hand with us or give us a five. Adorable!

He's still getting up on all fours, but no backward or forward motion yet.

The biggest new skill: Miles will now feed himself a puff! It took two weeks to go from gagging, to tolerating a puff from mommy, to liking puffs from mommy, to feeding himself a puff (and wanting more, more, more). Yay, Miles!

No new stats to report until our nine month check-up. We did just upgrade to size 3 diapers so I'm guessing he's around 18 pounds.

Sleep is going well. Most nights Miles will go down easy and put himself to sleep within 15-20 minutes. We still have 2-3 nights a week with fussing. He's sleeping through the night consistently except for the occasional off night.

Mommy hit a major milestone with Miles at eight months: I stopped getting up once at night to pump. Now I too sleep through the night. Hooray! I've got a small bank of frozen milk to tap when I am ready to stop pumping at work. Double hooray!
