back to work?

My six week doctor's appointment is Monday and then I'll know if I'm headed back to work in another week or three (to let the tail bone heal some more). Hoping for the latter. I am trying to soak up every minute with my little guy.

Miles has started napping a lot better the past week and he continues to do pretty well at night. Our biggest news is bottle feeding! Ben gives Miles one bottle a day now, and they're both doing great. We'll start him on two bottles a day next week. My mom will be here Monday -- Nan can't wait to feed him.

I'll post some photos and a video soon -- I think I got a coo out of Miles this morning. Best.Sound.Ever.

getting to know Miles

Miles is changing so much every day! Part of the fun is getting to know (and understand) his moods and personality. Overall, Miles is easy going and good natured, with a few exceptions. So far we know this about him:

Likes
  • Cuddling
  • Moving - rocking, riding in the car/stroller/papoose
  • Baths - especially getting his hair washed and scalp massaged

Dislikes
  • Burping, farting, pooping. OMG he gets nuts at times!
  • Naps. He fights it with every eye peep. The boy would sleep with one eye open if he could.
  • Having his feet covered. He always manages to work his foot out of a swaddle, blankie or sock. Observe:

play date

Big day for Mr. Miles: he had his first play date! As with most outings, he slept through the whole thing.

On Saturday we ran into another couple from our parenting class and discovered they live just a few blocks from us. So Mr. Michael and his mama walked over today and we took the boys for a stroll. It was soooo nice to chat with another new mom -- we commiserated over the boys' moodiness, shared our delivery stories and subsequent aches and pains, and fretted about childcare (though we're hoping to share a few good babysitters!).

mama and Miles updates

17 days post delivery and I'm starting to feel more like my old self! Getting around is much easier, especially up and down stairs, and I'm looking forward to more walks and stroller outings next week. It's so weird NOT having a big belly though I am definitely getting readjusted to it. Getting dressed is a major challenge...maternity clothes are too big and my normal clothes are too tight. I'm trying to be patient and keep recycling the same few outfits that do fit.

Miles and I had a big solo outing yesterday to Target (we needed more newborn diapers after discovering his size 1 diapers are still too big)...wow, is his carrier heavy! It was a challenge, but we did it. Miles slept the whole time (this is becoming a pattern whenever we leave the house).

I picked up Miles this morning and definitely noticed how much heavier he's getting! Our little guy is growing so fast (just like everyone said he would). He got a few "newborn" size onesies this past weekend and it looked like a tight muscle t-shirt once he got it on! His rolls and dimples are too cute, and his tummy is filling out. I want to eat him up!

my guys

We had a fun, low-key family weekend. It was great to have Ben at home for three days. In addition to our farmers market outing, we took Miles for his first walk around the block. Daddy couldn't wait to try out his papoose (as he likes to call it).

On the 4th we watched the neighborhood kids parade around the block on bikes. We were hoping to see the antique fire truck, but it didn't appear. It'll be fun to take Miles around the block in his stroller, or maybe in a wagon, next year!

Today we celebrated Ben's birthday with a picnic at Ewing Manor. Miles napped and we sat in the shade and strolled the grounds.

first outings

Besides a few trips to the pediatrician, we haven't been out of the house yet. Yesterday my mom and I ventured out to the hospital with thank you gifts for our nurses, and Miles did great. He really likes his stroller (thank you auntie Nikki and auntie Natalie!)!

Today we all took a trip to the farmers market. It took 1.5 hours and a small army of supplies, but we made it! Miles slept the whole time. I like to think he thoroughly enjoyed himself.
