crib

We came home yesterday to find our crib sitting on our sidewalk propped up against the house. So it was a nice surprise in that it was fast, but sorta annoying that UPS just left it outside like it was a Target package or something. Oh well. Ben made a good point: it would have taken 2 pretty determined thieves and a truck to make off with it. The crib is currently in our living room and still in the box. I think we'll tackle opening it tomorrow...

baby prep progress

Big week for baby Libert! Ben painted the nursery while I was in Arizona last weekend, and it looks great. The light orange turned out beautiful. The mural wall has primer and is ready for action.

We also made the big crib decision this week. I looked at a few Bonavita cribs in person last week (thankfully a store in the Phoenix-area actually carried them!), and we then selected three different styles we were happy with. Luckily we found one of the three in stock this week so it's ordered and should be here shortly! Big sign of relief.

Meanwhile, my bump continues to expand and all my non maternity pants (and most shirts) are pretty much out of the question at this point. Mama's gotta go shopping!

I just clicked to my homepage and glanced at the baby tracker....then my jaw hit the floor when it said 99 days to go. Holy crap -- double digit countdown!!! Already?!?!

registry prep

It's time to start the registry! We got a great list of suggested items and some things to consider skipping (thank you, Catherine!). We'd love to hear your must haves and those things you'd do without the second time around, as well as any store recommendations. Share your wisdom with us, parents!

Ben's gearing up to paint the baby's room this weekend while I head off to Arizona for some R&R. I can't wait to see Lynn and Andrew, drink iced tea in the warm sunshine and cheer for the Cubs! We will certainly miss daddy -- and he'll miss us too. Today's funny quote from Ben (to me as I drove home from work), "bring my baby home!" Ha! Funny how things change!!

nursery update

We're making progress on the baby's room. We did decide to go with the light orange (cantaloupe slice) paint color I saw a few weeks back. And Ben has a mock-up of the mural done.

Furniture shopping is happening too. We visited the Nursery Nook, a small business in Bloomington, and it was fairly traumatic. The place is a dump. It's practically a shed. I guess they just don't care since they are the only business selling nursery furniture in town. Anyway, we got some ideas (mostly things we don't like) and did some more looking online. We also got a copy of the Baby Bargains book so we can check out tips, safety ratings, etc.

Overall, we are making SLOW progress on cribs, and we have to make a decision soon. We haven't really liked anything we've seen, nor do we want to pay $700. We're looking for a classic crib with clean lines. Above all, we want something that has a good safety rating. Suggestions? Please weigh in with your crib expertise!!

heartbeat

Another good check-up on Monday! We recorded a bit of the heartbeat (love the new iPhone) just for fun. Give it a listen -- 138 bpm.

bump watch - 24 weeks

The growing bump is disguised a bit with the pattern. Dresses are the best lately as I grow out of more and more pants!

lucky charm

I survived Vegas! Overall it was a great trip. Very tiring, but good. Everything is starting to take a lot more effort these days, and I really realized that while I was gone -- less time to rest, more walking, etc. all adds up fast!

The smoke was definitely the worst part of Vegas. Di.sgust.ing. I really wanted a bubble to transport myself through the casinos. Glad that part is over.

We stayed at Bally's and did venture out to the mall and Wynn last night. The Wynn is so much quieter and less smoky so that was nice. I played $20 on a slot machine and won $53! That's my biggest winning ever (minus playing with the girls on our 30th bday). My coworker wasn't doing as well and moved to try a new machine...then she came back and sat down next to me thinking I (and the baby) was good luck. It worked! She left $45 richer. Fun times.

We're very glad to be home. The baby has been kicking up a storm all evening -- couldn't wait to say hi to daddy.

Tomorrow is the 24 week milestone. I'll try to get a photo posted this weekend!
